The City of Tucson is preparing a city-wide transportation master plan that will create a mobility blueprint for the City’s future in a rapidly-changing world. The plan will be innovative, creative, and inclusive. By working together, we can commit ourselves to create a mobility future that works for all of us.

How can streets be made safer? How can we expand travel options so more people can walk, bike, or take public transit? How do we improve reliability of travel time, particularly as we grow? We need your help shaping the City’s vision and action plan to answer these questions and more. Together, we can create the city we want to be.

The outcome of the planning process will be a document that informs the Mayor and Council’s decisions in the very near future about policy, resources, and how welcoming and livable our city is to visitors, residents, and business owners.

A conversation with Mike Peel of Local First Arizona about ways to create a resilient local economy here in Southern Arizona.

The coronavirus pandemic response has highlighted a number of weaknesses in our economy. How can we create a vibrant, sustainable, and equitable local economy? We will be asking Mike that question in this conversation about steps we can be taking now and in the future to ensure we can weather this crisis and the inevitable shocks to the economy that climate change will bring.

We’re still dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic, which is why this month’s topical issue meeting will be online. We will have a presentation and discussion of known and suspected links between climate change and pandemics, what we know at this point about the current strain of Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the impacts of the pandemic worldwide, in the United States, and especially here in Arizona and Pima County. We’ll highlight the issues and vulnerabilities this ongoing pandemic has revealed in our society and community in order to focus on addressing these concerns through our future efforts to build a Sustainable Tucson. Join us this month to learn about One Weekend for the World – a new initiative from Shane Reiser, serial entrepreneur and former COO of Startup Weekend, in a special session about organizing for grassroots action.

The program will start with a recap of Hack Tucson, the design sprint for sustainability hosted by Sustainable Tucson and Code for Tucson as part of the 2019 TENWEST Impact Festival.

Join Code for Tucson and Sustainable Tucson for the opening weekend of the TENWEST Impact Festival. Using the Sustainable Development Goals (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/) as a guide, teams of 2-6 civic-minded participants will work together over two days to develop concepts to make Tucson more livable, more sustainable, and more equitable. Projects can take any form: a technological solution, a business idea, or a political action. The best ideas can be developed as projects of Code for Tucson or Sustainable Tucson over the next year.

So, bring your ideas and your enthusiasm. We’ll supply the space, support, and food.
